Hi everyone hope this update finds you all well and most of all COOL! Wow at the HOT STEAMY weather we have been having. The dogs do not want to do anything except lay around inside in the AC. I can not say that I blame them.
I am getting a little better one tiny baby step at a time. I have had it pretty rough since getting out of the hospital. At first they said I could have clear liquids but soon I discovered that I would not be able to take in much of that at all without getting very sick.
I can have NO FOOD until my stomach removal surgery (similar to gastric by pass surgery but for a underweight person since my stomach is not working at all now) which is a good 4-6 months away. I have to gain some weight from the feeding tube before they can even think about that major surgery. I am trying very hard to be patient and stay focused on all positive things. I must say it is a real challenge. But I do not have a choice and there are still so many lives that need saving and I will do all I can while in the background to help rescue the shelter pets that we can.

I am very excited to say we adopted out our last puppy in rescue today! We do have a couple of older pups around 8 months but not any little pups right now. We have a few adult dogs who need wonderful forever homes but it always seem that they are the last to go. Everyone wants a puppy of course. We will not be without rescue pups long. I have already heard about a couple who need rescue and if you check back in a few days should not be surprised to find we have babies again.

I hope this quick update finds everyone doing great and stop by to see us if you have a chance!
THANKS AND GOD BLESS!

Good Evening!!!! I AM STILL ALIVE!!!!

This is not just something I am saying as a figure of speech by the way.

Today is my 20th day in CMC Hospital in Pineville. I was suppose to be home about 16 or 17 days ago but because of all sorts of complications and coding last Sunday at 10 am I kind of got off schedule a good bit!

I thank THE LORD that he allowed the skilled caregivers at the hospital the chance to save my life! So my work here is not finished yet it seems.

There are so many more lives to be saved and once I am able my rescue efforts can once again take on a more physical presence in our rescue program.

In the meantime know that I am * here in the background doing computer work, * looking for pets who are about to loose their lives without us and * praying that my heath improves quickly.

While I am recovering there are many other people who are banding together to keep things going as smooth as possible. Praise their hard work and help them when you can please! I would mention them each by name but there any many I have not even meet who have stepped in since I went into the hospital I would never want to leave anyone out.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO EACH OF YOU WHO ARE HELPING SO MUCH WITH OUR RESCUE AT THIS TIME. WITHOUT YOU THIS COULD NOT BE POSSIBLE...... ( a very special thank you to the wonderful husband I have who has been so good to me during all this! He has supported me without hesitation for the last 8 years of this horrible illnesss.  I can not say what his love and devotion mean to me.

SPEAKING OF VOLUNTEERS...

Please read some changes we are having to make to our voluteer program.....

We are not able or do not feel it safe or fair for young kids to have them volunteer and work for long hours at a time. The new times, ages requirements (vs hours) and other information will be posted to the volunteer page as soon as I am well enough to get the page updated. For now please do not treat our rescue as a babysitter service for children where you drop kids off early each morning and pick them back up in the evening!

I have been shocked at some of the things people have been doing in the name of bringing kids to "volunteer"!!!

NO KIDS UNDER THE AGE OF 14 ARE TO BE LEFT at the kennel WITHOUT A PARENT UNLESS CLEARED IN ADVANCE .

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS CALL ME AT 704-254-0354 AND I WILL CALL YOU BACK AS SOON AS I FEEL ABLE TO TALK MORE ABOUT THIS . I MAY NOT FEEL WELL ENOUGH TO CALL ABOUT IT RIGHT AWAY AS MY HEALTH IS MY PRIORITY.

AS IT HAPPENS SO OFTEN IN LIFE A FEW PEOPLE CAN REALLY MESS UP A GOOD THING FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE....

SORRY BUT WE HAVE HAD SOME REAL SERIOUS ISSUES ABOUT THIS.

I WILL BE TYPING AND UPDATING THE PAGE MORE VERY SOON. IT IS SO BEHIND AND WE HAVE VERY DIFFERENT DOGS IN RESCUE NOW.

THANKS AND KEEP US IN YOUR PRAYERS.

Since I began getting sick several years ago I have slowly gotten worse and I finally found a couple of doctors who we hope can help get my quality of life back to a reasonable level. I have lost nearly 75 pounds and have to get some help. This weight loss and digestive problem is all associated with a messed up ulcer surgery I had in Monroe about 6 years ago. Be careful if you ever have to have surgery and check out the doctor before you EVER allow them to operate on you! I sure wish I knew then what I know now....
BUT Out of every storm there is a rainbow. Had I not became disabled I do not think I would have slowed down long enough to listen to the calling the Lord had for my life...the rescue mission which he continues to bless and lead us with. I decided once I became disabled as I was meeting people with similar health issues that I did not want to sit around and give up ...I wanted to keep going and give back. I had been working with our Australian Shepherds doing some dog shows and helped a friend groom her rescue Aussies before some events. She amazed me with her kind heart and compassion for the rescue dogs.
Once I could no longer show our Aussies and do the physical things I had been doing with them I got to thinking about my friend and all the good she was doing for the dogs....I wanted to do something positive to help. So I prayed about it and decided we should focus more on rescue. This gave me a reason to keep going and do something of value with what skills and ability I still had.
Now that I am getting a lot weaker it has become much more difficult to keep going but I am blessed with wonderful help and some excellent volunteers so no matter what happens I think it will continue on! That gives me hope and a great deal of JOY! So now we just all need to keep focused on helping the deserted, abandoned, abused, and other shelter pets get into wonderful forever loving homes. Your help is what keeps me going!

Below are a few pictures of some of the wonderful young ladies who helped us out this weekend!
I am in the process of adding a volunteer picture folder to the pictures page. Check back soon to see if your picture is on the web site! Also if you have a picture you want me to share of you or your kids working with us please send me a email. I am so proud of each one of the wonderful young people who share their time and heart with our rescue program!

PLEASE if you get to read this today come to the Waxhaw Festival and join the fun! Our rescue had a great time yesterday and were able to meet lots of wonderful new people from our community getting the word out about our rescue and the horror of the gas and other high kill shelters paid for by our tax dollars!
Sorry that it must sound strange for me to get excited about such a thing but until more people REALLY KNOW what goes on with our tax dollars it will never stop!
There were so many nice families who came to our booth and many adoptions took place giving our rescue pets new wonderful homes! If you have time today go to Waxhaw and see the sites, the great crafts and our rescue booth. It is a great time for families to get together and just walk the streets of the town and have fun together.

I will be doing updates to the site over the next day to add the pets who are still in need of new homes. Check back often and I will get busy to complete this as quick as I can.

A HUGE THANK YOU GOES OUT TO DAWN who was in charge of getting everything done for the Waxhaw festival! She did a great job and worked so hard.
ALL THE WONDERFUL KIND HELPERS who stepped up and worked with Dawn....Joe, Sue, Lisa T, Lauren, Lisa S, James of course, Maddie and Shelia who was stuck here taking care of the kennel by herself! If I left anyone out please forgive me because I was not there yesterday and pray I will be able to at least go for a few minutes today!

More to come...check back soon!
Thanks for all the support!

Hi everyone. I hate that I am too sick to attend the Waxhaw festival and see you all. I feel so sad that I am not able to help out and hate being sick!  :(
Many of you may have already heard but I am going to have to have some surgery soon and not feeling so well. Keep me in your prayers as I strive to get well enough to get back in the swing of things. It may take some time but I have a lot of faith in the Lord and in what we are doing so believe that this will help to get me back on track. In the mean time James, Shelia, Darlene, Melissa will be the main people who are working hard at the kennel and of course Dawn, Lisa, Lauren, Lisa T, Sue, Sally and the rest of the wonderful kind volunteers will pitch in as they can to help out.

For those who do not know here is what news we got yesterday regarding the upcoming major surgery to remove my stomach.

I got bad news yesterday they found out the my blood work showed I am not strong enough for the surgery. I am anemic and my protein something is too low for me to heal properly. So new plan. They are working to get me in asap to do a feeding tube and try to get my blood levels where they need to be before they will be able to do the big surgery.Possibly in a few months. He did not want to put me through 2 surgeries but have no choice now. I would rather be safe than sorry but in the beginning he told the tube would not be enough to support my dropping weight so we have to see how it goes. I am weak and not able to do much. Have not ate since Tuesday but have faith still and not giving up!

Please join me in welcoming Darlene the newest hard working helper here at Heavensown!
Darlene has her own rescue...she founded and runs CERA. Check out her web site when you get a chance. She is doing some very special work with Horse Rescue in the Union County area. We are thrilled to have Darlene helping is several morning each week. Shelia, James and I just can not seem to keep up these days! Things are really getting busy here and we had to have some help. We are thankful to have found Darlene! Not only does she have a rescue heart but she is a super hard worker and great addition to our program!

Lot of other updates will be added later today as soon as I get a chance. But one big thing for now is please take a look at the wanted homes page. We had a lot of puppy adoptions this weekend and have some new faces on the wanted loving homes page. Send the site to your family and friends who may be on the lookout for a new pet!

Thanks and have a wonderful week!
God bless,

IT IS OFFICIAL MY REAR END IS TOTALLY ASLEEP!

I have been working all night to get as much updated on the wanted loving homes page and the other web sites such as petfinder and adopt a pet updated with the new pups and dogs we have here in rescue.
I added updated pictures of the pups we had already posted to our wanted loving homes page and hope you will take time to go check them out. We have some adorable pups and adults in rescue right now!

Also lots of upcoming FUN EVENTS! If you want to get involved and help out check out the calendar page and see all the events we are going to be at this month then let us know if you would like to help with our booth click here to contact Miss,Lauren who will be heading up most of the events for us.

Check out the site and come for a visit to see the wonderful pets in our rescue program or send the link to the site to all your family and friends who may be searching for a new pet this spring!

We are in GREAT NEED OF PUPPY FOOD!!!

PLEASE consider donating a bag if you come to see us. We are currently using Iams smart puppy or Kirkland puppy (Costco brand puppy food only 11.00 for a 20 pound bag). Right now we are using around 15-20 pounds of puppy food a day! Your help as always is greatly appreciated.

I just updated the wish list page. We bought $700.00 worth of fill dirt last week and $400.00 worth of gravel for the kennel runs out of my disability check. I also bought a new cart to pull the dishes from the kennel to the house where I have to wash and clean them until we get our septic system installed at the kennel. Those big ticket items are now removed from the wish list page. BUT WE STILL NEED GRAVEL if someone would like to donate a load we found a place that will sell and deliver them at a slightly lower price than we had been paying. We also have a BIG NEED FOR CLEANING SUPPLIES RIGHT NOW....

IF YOUR on FACE BOOK go look up Heavensown Rescue and become a fan. Miss. Emma has been kind enough to help us out by keeping up a Face Book page for our rescue program. Thank you EMMA!

Thanks for all each of you do to help keep this all going without each of you this would not be possible! We do hope you will come for a visit soon and see us and the new rescue pups we have.

We have lots of new ideas for a overhaul on the volunteer page for those who are looking for great ways to help this summer. We will have those posted soon!

Please if you plan to bring your child to help out we ask that they not be left here without a parent if they are less than 13 years of age. We are extremely busy and can not properly look after younger children. Thanks for your understanding!
Check back for more updates soon!!!

"YAHOOOO HAPPY HAPPY DANCE TIME"
I feel rather guilty that I have not been able to keep everyone updated on the web site the past few weeks. We have been so incredibly busy that I hardly have time to do anything it seems. We are now on several more pet adoption web sites which post our rescue dogs and puppies for free and this has helped a great deal to draw in lots of new families to our rescue. I have had to work pretty hard to keep these sites updated since we have had a lot of new dogs and puppies coming in from various shelters. The great thing is that the new adoption sites are bringing in different people who are adopting dogs! Not just puppies but ADULT DOG too! In just a little over a week we have had 3 adult moms placed in wonderful forever homes!

One girl GYPSY is in a home on a trail to see if she will work out with the other family dog. This is a very HAPPY time for us. I have prayed so many times that this very special girl would find her a great home but it seemed like it just was not going to ever happen.  Gypsy came to us over a year ago from a local gas shelter along with her 7 tiny little pups. This girl has been such a love but it seemed that no one wanted to give her a chance! So I am thrilled to say that finally a very nice family came along who saw what we have seen in her all along............... a sweet happy girl who will make a wonderful companion!
A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Miss. Maddie and her family too because they loved Gypsy and allowed her to stay with them during some of our very busy times. Being with a foster family have Gypsy the chance to get accustomed to being in a home with people who love her and she just blossomed and learned so quickly how to behave. This is the very reason I am always in search of people who are willing to foster dogs and puppies from us.

Sprig is in the air! Or is it? Today was beautiful again but tonight is just way too cool! The dogs and I will be so happy when it is warm again! Speaking of warmer weather please keep the dogs in mind if you have any hard plastic swimming pools that the kids no longer need this summer. If they still hold water they make a great treat for the dogs to cool off in during those long hot summer days we have coming in a few months. We have already brought out the couple of ones that survived the doggie dips from last summer and they love getting in the water so much!

There is a lot going on at the kennel.
We passed our state inspection this past week! We will have our new boarding and rescue licenses in a few weeks!   Yippeee!!! We have to make a few adjustments and order about $500.00 more in gravel but all in all it went really well. (THANK YOU SHELIA once again for being at the kennel on a day when I was just not able because of my health and for being of top of things with the inspection :)

Melissa and Shelia have worked REAL hard to get a lot of things organized for me the past few weeks and they did a wonderful job. I so appreciate every single person who steps in to help with the rescue program. Even though I may not mention everyone by name please know that every moment you spend helping by volunteering, donating items or sending out our web site to people helps to save lives! Together we all are making a difference and each and every person is playing a very important role in that mission! I do have to mention a couple of young ladies who seem to spend a great deal of their teenage time scooping poop, cleaning, giving baths and what ever else we need done here...Both of our caring Maddie girls have donated more hours than any other teen this year and we want you to know we are thankful for your help always! The compassionate nature of some of the younger people who come here to help out amazes me at times. I pray that they will learn something while they are visiting that will stick with them in life and cause them to fight for the humane treatment of pets in their future.

"I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?" God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly. "I have done something," He replied. "I created You." ~Jim Willis~

 Such a beautiful WEEKEND!!!!

See below this update for our Treasure of the weekend update and pictures!

We were SO blessed this weekend with visits from several of our site members who spent time with the dogs and rolled up sleeves to help out with chores! Thank you so much and thanks for the bag of puppy food which showed up while I was out buying some because we were 100% out!

We were so fortunate that plumbers came and did a "rough in" of the pipes this weekend too! This is the first step toward getting running water in the kennel! We hope to get a perk test done soon and are checking out prices on a septic system. I can hardly wait till we can wash dogs and have a bathroom in the kennel for everyone. It will be wonderful to wash buckets and dog dishes inside the kennel instead of freezing outside another winter! We are thrilled with this possibility!  Below is a picture of Greg (our plumbing angel) and his family recently when they adopted Nevaeh from us! Thanks guys for giving her a great home and your help with the plumbing for our rescue program!

Treasure is feeling much better now and we have to MAKE her come inside! She wants to stay outside and play with the cats. She has fallen in love with our 2 cats and never wants to leave their side! She also had a nice meet and greet with our dear friend and helper Lauren this weekend!

Treasure discovered how to play ball despite the collar of shame on her head!!! She now can scoop up a tennis ball in her collar!!!

She is such a character and we dearly love this little precious girl. I can not THANK each of you enough for helping us give her the chance at a wonderful life with all 4 limbs!

She has a potential adoption coming up too along with her sister...the pair in a home together would be a dream come true for us and the girls~!~

Treasure is NOT happy with her new E-Collar...vbg...but she chewed the top of her pin off and unwrapped her leg. They checked it out today and put her collar on. She is doing excellent! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO HELP PAY FOR THE SURGERY!!! WE ALMOST HAVE IT COVERED!

TREASURE IS OUT OF SURGERY AND WILL BE HOME IN A WHILE!

She does have a pin coming out the top of her hip that will be removed in a couple of months once the bone heals. We are so excited that she is going to be ok!!! The vet says she is between 12-14 weeks old and that this was a HORRIBLE break much worse than he thought before getting into the surgery. He was amazed that she was not crying in pain and said she is one tough little girl. He does feel that the break was caused by someone kicking or hitting her with some heavy object because the bone was not shattered like is the case with a dog who had been hit by a car. He also said this was an older injury and that she had been dealing with the pain for weeks!!!!

TREASURE IS OUT OF SURGERY! 1:14 PM

They say she is awake and doing well! She will be home tonight!!! Thank you to everyone who has donated to help pay for her care and a big thanks to Dr.Pressly and the staff at MIXED PET for the wonderful care they have given Treasure today while having her surgery! If you do not have a vet please consider this wonderful upbeat vet practice! Here is the link to the web site where you can learn more about this excellent vet practice! I will post a picture of  the sweet Miss. Treasure later tonight once she is home and give everyone a update on how she is doing!

3-8-10

Thanks to Lisa T we have located a vet who is doing surgery this morning on Treasure and will give us a discount on the total bill for her care. He will be placing a pin in her thigh bone this morning and expects a full recovery for this little princess! She will need to go back in a few months to have the pin removed and we will have to take extra good care of her for a while but since she is so young he feels she will be almost good as new once this is all over with!

A very big thanks to each and EVERY person who saw the plea to help us cover the expense for her care and was kind enough to help us with a donation. Without the support of  these people it would have been a very hard decision for us as to which direction to go in for Treasure's care.

Every penny will go toward getting this darling puppy back to playing and being able to have a great life. But if for any reason any extra money is raised we will take that and place it on our balance for emergency vet care for other rescue pets . Currently there is over $2,500 still that we owe for emergency care only.  Without being able to charge some of the urgent care for our rescue pets many would never have lived. Shots, spay/neuters and such maintenance care is paid for at the time the services are given on all pets we take in our rescue program! This amount is for critical pets who needed urgent care only or for life saving surgery for the rescue dogs in our program.

I will get new pictures of Treasure posted here as soon as possible once she is home and recovering from the surgery.

IF  you know someone who would like to adopt Treasure or one of her beautiful sisters please tell them about our web site so they can fill out a application.

Thanks and have a great day!

Donna and Treasure

URGENT *** TREASURE NEEDS HELP FAST~~!!~~

I had no intention of taking in another rescue right now but got a frantic phone call on Saturday from a friend who works with the Lancaster shelter. She said that someone had just brought in 4 breathtaking collie mixed puppies and that there was NO SPACE any place in the shelter for them. This meant that they would be the very first to be put down since owner surrenders do not have to be held for a certain amount of time because they are certain they are not lost with someone looking for them.

The owner who brought these sweet babies was even told that they would not likely live past sundown and STILL left them at the shelter! At any rate off to what is MOST important about these babies and I will leave my feeling for the previous owners at your imagination. They are some of the most beautiful pups we have had (all are girls around 4 months old) . One of the pups who we are calling "TREASURE" came into the shelter with a badly hurt leg. After getting them here and a good bath we evaluated Treasure. It looked like her leg may be broken she was not a able to put any weight on it and there was lots of swelling so gave her some medication to keep her comfortable till we could get to the vet the next morning  which was Saturday. OUR worst fears were confirmed at the vet appointment Treasure had a serious break in her thigh bone which would be very expensive to repair.

The vet gave us the following options....(1) Put a cast on her leg without setting the break and she would probably not retain any use of the leg for the rest of her life. Possibly at a later time it may have to be amputated...casting the leg would cost $400-$500.00.

(2) Put her to sleep at a cost of around $65.00 if we took her body and buried it our selves or

(3) Take the x-ray from our $100.00 visit with him to a specialist who is a Vet orthopedic surgeon and have him operate on her leg to reconnect the broken bone...next he would cast it for her at an expense of approximately $1,200- $1,500. Her recovery  would take several months of working with her but she should have use of the leg without restrictions.

Putting her to sleep WAS NOT A OPTION FOR US! This adorable gentle little girl had already been thrown away by someone and we certainly would NOT GIVE UP ON HER! Treasures life means something and just because she is broken does not mean she is not worthy of being fixed! There were MANY WONDERFUL KIND volunteers at the rescue today and all of them were horrified at the very thought of putting this sweet girl to sleep and all said they were willing to pitch in to help. This is where everyone can do something to really make a difference. If we all pitch in for Treasure this is not a difficult choice for us. We need to raise the money to pay for her care. .On Monday 3-8-10  we will be taking her and her x-rays to our primary vet Central Providence Dr.Booker for a second opinion and referral to a specialist. WILL YOU PLEASE consider helping us give this girl the normal use of her leg back? You can chip in any amount because every dollar will make a difference. Hit the pay pal link to the right of this page and when donating put Treasure in the donation comments. I will keep everyone posted about her progress here on the first page of the web site as her care unfolds. Below are pictures of Treasure and of her litter-mates. Email me if you have any questions. The vet thinks she may have been hit by a car which could have caused her injury.

God bless you for your kindness and WE ALL APPRECIATE your help so much!

Treasure and her sisters below were knocking on deaths door moments after being surrendered to a local shelter. Why in the world would these adorable babies have to die? The only reason was that  there was NO SPACE for them at the shelter...that was not their fault and we are so blessed to have been able to rescue them before it was too late.

They are so very sweet and precious little Treasure is so quiet even though we know she is in a great deal of pain!

Such smart little pups who should have so much better and we will be sure they get the life they deserve!

I do not have a lot to post this morning but do want to share pictures of a FRIENDS RESCUE DOG who is in need of a permanent home. Please call Susan at 704-764-7096 if you are in search of an adorable young adult male boxer mix who is a snuggle bug! This boy is just PRECIOUS and really wants a family of his own. He is neutered and up to date on all vet work and would love a home with a nice fenced in yard and warm bed inside to sleep on every night. Call Susan today if this sounds like your home and she will set a time for you to meet Max Camper!

It is hard to think that March is here already! I for one am so glad we are getting near the time of warmer weather!

Winter is hard for me and the dogs! Until we are able to install plumbing inside the kennel we have to continue to fill water buckets outside and believe me that is no fun. We are working to fix that and I know in time we will have that project completed and a nice inside bath room plus a place to wash the dogs in the kennel finally! You may hear all of our volunteers who have had to endure the dreaded water bucket filling outside shouting for joy along with me once this is finished! I think there are a lot of us who are over freezing outside at the water faucet while filling water buckets!

The dogs also have it harder in the winter time too. They do no not tend to get as much running and playing when the weather is cold and damp. Not many people want to come volunteer to walk dogs when it is 30 degrees outside and I do not blame them!  Spring is such a great and joyful time of the year when there seems to be hope for everyone and everybody seems to be in a better mood too!

Even the dogs!!!

Moving on........

We have a some new great support from a local business I would like to tell you about!  I hope you will thank them by visiting their web site and check out the great products and services they have to offer for you and your pet. You can click the links to learn more but be sure to tell them you learned about them from Heavensown. We plan to give some of the great products they offer a try and hope you will do the same!

Now for the rest......

I hope everyone is doing great and staying warm. It is snowing dogs and puppies at the local gas shelters these days....It never fails to break my heart at the hundreds of pet pictures I see in emails every day. These are pictures of the pets who need to get out before they run out of time at shelters across the southeast. There are many reasons these pets end up at the shelters but MOST are at NO FAULT...can you imagine being imprisoned for NO REASON AT ALL...and be facing a death sentence for doing nothing wrong....and have only days to impress a stranger or even hours to get out alive....all the while being surrounded by loud barking, and cold concrete in a place that is so frightening and unfamiliar to you???? Now think that your only a few weeks old at the time this happens or your are expecting your first litter of puppies and have no blanket or warm place to even give birth.....This is what is facing the pets at our local shelters....can you imagine....I know NO ONE WANTS TO IMAGE but somebody has to or they will all die!

I know some people will say I should not type this on the web site because it sounds so harsh and horrible but it is more than that it is a reality and one that we see daily......There are not enough tears to cover the shame I feel that we still are killing these pets for no good reason.....Did you know that up north it is very difficult to even find a dog or puppy to adopt???? There is an actual shortage of pets because they have serious spay/neuter laws that keep the horrors we have here in the south from happening every day. We are working with others to get as many of the shelter pets to safety up north as possible but it takes time, money, planning and a lot of phone calls and leg work to make it all happen....in the meantime.....we can only do so much.....I hope you will do your part by supporting rescue...any decent rescue who is saving lives.......

Unfortunately we can only afford to help so many and do what we can. There are so many who are not rescued.

I hope to live to see the day that more people are willing to step up and save the pets who have ended up at the shelters......There are just not enough rescue people and donations to take care of the pets in need....In order to slow the high number of pets being killed due to over population we need to adopt stricter laws for spay/neuter of companion/pet animals and make it much less expensive for people to be able to have the pets they own sterilized (spay/neuter). If most people knew the horror that face the unwanted pets they would allow the pets they own to ever become pregnant and have litter after litter of innocent puppies and kittens. We need to educate our friends and neighbors about what REALLY happens to the pets who end up at our local TAX payer supported shelters.    It is NOT the fault of the shelter workers although many find it easy to blame them for the horrors the pets face...it is not the fault of the dog or cat who has litter after litter of babies year after year...it is OUR fault...the people who allow their pets to roam free without care and then end up with unwanted puppies or kittens....It is the fault of each one of us who does not speak to a friend or neighbor about having their pet fixed so this does not continue to happen. Do they really have any idea what happens to the pets who do not get adopted at the shelters? Probably not....so many people who have came here told us they thought the local county shelters were safe places for stray or unwanted pets. Many people do not know or maybe do not want to know that around 60 - 70% never make it back out of the shelters alive. You and I must educate people so that they get a clue about what is happening. And PLEASE if anyone EVER tells you they just want to have ONE litter so that their child can witness the miracle of birth have them call me so we can let them visit us to see that happen and not allow them to have puppies or kittens just so their child can see birth take place. We rescue dogs that are going to deliver babies and would be happy to allow a calm child to come watch if it means saving puppies from possibly death at a local shelter.

Ok guys I know enough and I will get off my soap box and tell you about the LUCKY ones who we have been able to help recently! We have 2 litters of ADORABLE BABIES right now that are just opening their eyes and ears to the new world around them! These are such PRECIOUS babies and we are so glad we were able to help them. One litter was born on VALENTINES DAY and the other a few days later. One is lab mix with sherpei (sp) I think and the other is Basenji mixed pups. Both litters are beautiful puppies and I will have pictures posted to the site later on tonight. We are having to hand feed the Basenji litter because the mom was just too young to be a mommy yet....she tried but you can not have a child raising 7 more babies. This means for those who do not know bottle feeding 7 babies every 3-4 hours and then cleaning each one with a warm wash rag so they will go potty. Babies this young will only go to the potty by their moms licking them because this is what stimulates their brain to make them go. You have to feed them during the night too so there is no sleeping longer than 4 hours at a time for the next several weeks. Keep us in your prayers that we are able to do this well enough for these little ones! If you are one of our wonderful volunteers and would like to help us by taking over a feeding while your here let me know! We would be happy to allow you to help out with the babies! It is a wonderful yet exhausting thing to raise a litter this way. Both of the moms were scheduled to be killed after the puppies were born and the puppies would have been killed with them. The shelters DO NOT have the time, space or staff to raise unwanted puppies and unless a rescue group takes them they do not get out alive. There are VERY few rescue groups in the SE who take on pregnant dogs and we have a heavy heart for the expectant moms so we help them when we can. There was over a 1,000 emails sent out about the lab mommy and NO rescue stepped up to take her. We went to get her on her very last afternoon because no one else would help. She is another PBD or plain black dog as we say. Her name is Duchess and she is a lab mix but by far one of the BEST MOMS AND MOST KIND AND SWEET DOGS I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE TO RESCUE. This girl deserved to live if ANY dog we have ever rescued did. So if you will pass the word that Duchess will need a home in about 6 weeks and so will all of her beautiful babies along with the other little litter of 7 pups that we have here. Check the wnated loving homes page for more updates and pictures of our Moms and babies. If you are willing we could use donations by pay pal or stop by and bring puppy food to help care for the little ones. BOTH moms will be spayed and have already begun their shots. I know you all understand the expense associated with spaying 2 adult dogs and the expense in caring for 2 litters of puppies. Your support and help is greatly appreciated. God bless you for helping us keep these dogs safe and all the others. More to come next time I get a few hours to sit here and type!

2-22-10

Hi everyone! Hope your all doing well and having a nice day! We have been very busy with the rescue work and not able to keep up with all the web work as well as we would like. I have updated the wanted loving homes page some and right now our most pressing need is dog food and puppy food. The best brands to keep happy tummies can be found on the wish list page if you would like to help out. We have a LOT of babies here right now that we are feeding....if you know someone searching for a puppy we have a variety in rescue right now. We even have several Australian Shepherd pups that are BEAUTIFUL!!!

FYI ---as many have been emailing and asking what the doctors plans are for me.          Many of you already  know I have been having a lot of test run to see which direction to go in with my digestive health problems. The results so far are encouraging in a way. At least now there are some other options that I have besides just a feeding tube! In March I have to go into the hospital to have my esophagus stretched by a balloon to allow the food I eat to pass more easily. Most of what solid food I eat gets stuck in my esophagus and I end up throwing a lot of it up. It has been like this for years and one of the reasons I have lost around 75 pounds! They may do something similar to my stomach at the same time because the food that does reach my stomach is faced with such a narrow opening that it is extremely hard to get it to pass into my intestines.. The surgeon and my GI doctor are discussing the best options to help get me so that I am able to eat enough solid food to maintain my nutritional needs.            I will keep you all posted as I know more about what the plans are for my health. It has not stopped my mission or my work but has slowed me down a lot the past few months since my ambulance ride to the ER before Christmas. I am just a lot weaker now that I need to be to do all the physical work around here with the dogs. Thankfully Shelia has stepped up and Melissa to help pick up a lot of the things that I have been responsible for with the kennel while I have taken on a more behind the scenes position in our rescue work. I have been doing a lot of the picture taking, paperwork, phone calls and nursing any sick pups and dogs in our home. Most of the time that I am at the kennel right now is early in the morning or at night so if I have missed getting to see you I apologize and hope to see you soon. Thanks to each of you who have stopped by and donated items or helped out the past few months.

Right now we REALLY need to locate a Radio Flyer wagon  to use for transporting dishes from the kennel to our house where we wash and sanitize them. We still have no running water inside the kennel and hope that project will be complete sometime this year. So that meas there is no bathroom, no washing dogs, no washing dishes, and no filling up water inside the kennel. Until we can raise the money to finish this project we continue to fill up water buckets outside in the cold and haul the dog bowls and dishes to the house for washing and to be sanitized.. Time has gone by very fast and right now my little red wagon is about 8 years old and falling apart. It is very rusty and needs to retire. The wheels often do not turn anymore either. I have priced new ones and they range from $150.00 - $200.00! That is a lot of dog food!!! If anyone has one of these that they no longer need for their children we would be most thankful to take it off your hands and put it to great use! Also your kids old hard plastic swimming pools from last summer make great whelping boxes for the expectant moms we get out of the shelters. Keep us in mind....Our wish list page is being updated now so if you wish to make a donation check it out.

Thank you so much and take a sneak peak at a couple of our new rescue pups below. More about them on the wanted loving homes page! We hope to see you soon! God bless, Donna, James, Shelia and Melissa and all the crew at Heavensown Rescue!!!

LOTS OF NEW PICTURES AND UPDATES TO WANTED LOVING HOMES PAGE....

GO CHECK THEM OUT AND SHARE THE UPDATES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS TODAY!!!

BRAND NEW LITTER OF BABIES JUST BORN ON THE COLD SHELTER FLOOR YESTERDAY!!!

A PLEA WAS SENT OUT TO ALL RESCUE WITHIN A DAYS DRIVE AND NO ONE IN OVER A THOUSANDS EMAILS WOULD GO GET THIS GIRL OUT.....TILL I GOT THE EMAIL AND GUESS WHAT......

SHE IS HERE IN A NICE WARM ROOM WITH LOTS OF BLANKETS FINALLY SAFE.

AS WELL WITH  HER AND HER PRECIOUS 9 Babies ....SHE DID NOT DESERVE TO BE TOSSED AWAY AND ALMOST KILLED!!! YES SHE IS A PBD (ANOTHER PLAIN BLACK DOG LAB MIX) BUT MORE IMPORTANT THAN HE COMMON LOOKS IS THAT SHE IS SWEET AND KIND A VERY NICE WELL BEHAVED GIRL WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TREATED THIS WAY....IT MAKES ME SO MAD THAT PEOPLE CARE SO LITTLE FOR THE ANIMALS THAT ARE LOYAL TO THEM!

We named her Duchess and she was an owner surrender a week ago to the Lancaster SC gas shelter along with their other dog which is a Sharpei mixe. How could ANYONE turn in their dogs to a shelter knowing that the dogs would likely be killed?? The owner was told when they dropped the dogs off that pregnant dogs rarely get out safe and most are killed when the pups are born along with their babies....how cruel.....

But they are ok now... yes they are safe and sound here....

Looks like the babies may be Lab x Sharpei ....they are so tiny and sweet. See Below!!!

I am thankful that we were able to make room for her and that she no longer has to worry about keeping her little ones warm or safe.

Lot of new faces here at Heavensown. Please give me a day or so to get them all posted. They will be on the wanted loving homes page. We are VERY low on dog food and I will up date the wish list tonight.

I hope everyone is safe and warm burrrr.....The 15 degree weather has made it hard for us to keep all the dogs warm but we have managed.

Call or visit when you can and keep us in your prayers as we are getting so many calls for help from people and gas shelters right now for dogs and pups in desperate need of rescue. So many are not getting out alive and it breaks my heart each day.....

1-15-10

Be sure to check out the wanted loving homes page we have a lot of new rescue pups here right now.

There are lots of nice puppies looking for new homes as well as several great adult dogs. Pass the web site along to anyone you know who in search of a new companion!

Currently we have several types of mixes in rescue including lab mixed pups, shepherd mixes, golden mixes, aussie mixes and some mixes that we are not even sure what they are except that they are sweet and very cute!

The wish list has been updated and we are very low on dog food and some cleaning supplies. If you know someone willing to donate please let them know that the page is now up to date. With the amount of puppies we have in rescue right now it will take a lot of puppy food to care for them. Your help is always appreciated!

1-14-10

We are now on Face book! If you have face book check us out. It is a brand new page so there is not much yet but we will begin work on it soon.

LOTS OF NEW PUPS IN RESCUE!!! It is raining puppies at the gas shelters right now~!~ No kidding it seems like spring of the year with all these babies showing up at the shelters all of a sudden. We have been getting tons of emails and phone calls about so many litters that are about to be killed due to there being no space left! We have several litters right now and can not seem to get everones pictures up even it is so busy here! I will work on it later today after my doctor appointment because everyone needs to see how precious all the little ones are! Long haired, short haired, shepherds mixes, lab and aussie mixes along with a few golden collies.....WOW it is crazy right now.

Below is just a sneak preview of what I am working on to put up on the wanted loving homes page for later this evening....

We are needing to update the Wish List too. We are really low on dog food. We bought several bags of  pro plan the other day and a couple of Costco adult and puppy. I think we have enough to last a couple of days now. But with all the puppies we are getting in we will be using a lot of puppy food and still need to feed the existing adults too. Any help or donations are appreciated. We are also out of pill pockets and have several new adult rescue dogs on medication.

Thanks for your help and more to come very soon.

Donna

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

What a busy and exciting time the past several weeks have been! Thanks to each person who took the time during the holidays to come help out with the rescue dogs and for each donation! We now have enough funds raised to apply for our non profit status or 5013c which cost $750.00! Thank you Lauren and Carolyn for holding on to this money the past few months as you did fund raising to get it all together! You ladies did a great job and a big thank you to each person who donated. All those $5.00 checks add up fast! And thank to those who gave more. We really appreciate all the work put into this project which will help the rescue work grow to new heights! We hope to have this in the mail within the next week!

A VERY BIG THANKS TO LISA T WHO WORKED SO MANY LONG HOURS TO GET THE EXTREME HOME VIDEO COMPLETE EVEN DURING CHRISTMAS AND IT HAS BEEN MAILED AND IT HAS BEEN DELIVERED TO THE SHOW! DAWN THANK YOU FOR COMING UP WITH THE IDEA AND EVERYONE WHO WORKED TO MAKE THE VIDEO COME TO LIFE. WE WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED........

I want to make sure everyone understands how this all came about and what we do here I have typed the below disclosure. Keep in mind that we have saved well over 300 dogs and cats from death by gas at our local shelters the past  year alone. If after reading the below you still want to know more about us and how this rescue work started please check out our

 history page.

We use to show our Australian Shepherd dogs and have been raising Aussies for the past 12 years. About 8 years ago it became impossible for me to show the dogs anymore or even work part time due to some serious health problems. As it turned out I became disabled and there were many things I could not do anymore. It was very depressing as I have always been a type A personality and very active busy person. I saw people in the same health condition as me who stayed in bed all day and pretty much gave up on life. I could not imagine my life was over! I promised the Lord then if he would let me get up each day and help me I would not give up. I would give back......to the dogs who had brought so much joy and happiness into our lives and the dogs who were not getting a chance to do that for others.

I did not want to give up on our Australian Shepherds....one was even my service dog.  Her name is Lacy and she  has saved me many times from falling when my blood pressure and  sugar bottoms out by pawing on me and making me sit down. She knows this is going to happen long before I do.  She is certified as my service dog and allowed to go any place I go. Without lacy my life would be VERY different and much harder.....We had created through careful breeding so me wonderful sweet and highly intelligent dogs and they were also bringing lots of joy to people and some were even working in children s hospitals, nursing homes, and so many other fun or working type homes.

People began telling me that I could not breed our dogs and do rescue. I have ALWAYS been a very responsible breeder and our dogs are checked on, placed in very wonderful responsible homes so it made no sense to me why I had to give up our once a year litter of aussies in order to do rescue..... all the money from the sale of the aussie pups goes right into our rescue program anyway so it is not like we are turning over a profit anywhere around here. All you have to do is visit us and our home to know this. We have not bought a car or any new transportation in many years. We do not even have a vehicle newer than a 1997 van! It stays broke down and our house is about to fall in due to the fact we spend everything we get on the rescue dogs. We are saving other back yard breeder dogs from shelters not our dogs . We know where our dogs are and are responsible about being sure they are cared for forever! We even had to repossess one of our pups from last year a while back because it was being tied out on the persons porch for many hours at a time which is against the contract they signed when they got the dog from us. We are caring loving people and if you want to know more about the one litter a year we still have ask us. I hope it does not stop you from working with our rescue program and I have never kept this a secret from anyone. So it is here now in print so no will think we are trying to hide this. If you want to ask me about this please feel free to email me.

NOW down to business of saving more dogs.....

We have a new mom and pups in rescue. She was headed to the Lancaster Shelter because the family had been evicted. Her name is Molly and her and her pups are below. More pictures can be seen our our wanted loving homes page. The pups are around 4 weeks old and will be ready for homes in 3-4 weeks. There are 2 black and white pups, one black white & copper colored puppy and one solid white snowball puppy!

Molly is a very sweet girl who will need a great home too. She is around 1.5 -2 years old.

It has been such a difficult December! Please just keep us in your prayers. I feel very luck and blessed that James and I are both home and not in the hospital! I had to take a trip via ambulance a few weeks back to the ER and then last week James ended up in the hospital over night due to a blood clot in his leg! Wow talk about everything hitting at once.

But thankfully we are both at home and doing much better. James is hard headed as usual and took about 20 minutes off from working at the kennel despite the doctors telling him to rest and keep his leg elevated for 5-7 days.
He had to go on 2 types of blood thinner and one I have to give to him by a shot twice a day.

A BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HARD WORK AT THIS PAST WEEKENDS EVENTS BY EVERYONE.

I only wish the weather had been as kind as each of our volunteers...

Word spread quickly it seems that I had a very difficult day Saturday with my health problems while everyone was away working at the 2 events we were set up at. Saturday evening I had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance and spent the evening in the ER. Thank  you everyone who worked so hard last night to be sure the dogs were taken care of and for each of you who came this morning. Your help was greatly appreciated. I am feeling much better and finally realize that I must go to the specialist and talk about getting a feeding tube if I am to continue my work and stay alive. It has been a decision I have put off as long as I can and your prayers would be a great help to me now. It is our hope that with a tube my health will improve and I will get the nutients my body is not getting now.

Now on to the dog updates. We feel fortunate that several people stepped up today and filled the buckets with pro plan and puppy food which we were totally out of. The pups from our adorable Glory girl will be ready to leave before too long and they are eating us out of house and home...lol...

I am trying to not over do it so I will post more soon as I am feeling better.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING~!~

It was a cold but beautiful Thanksgiving day! I hope everyone had a chance to visit with family and friends and reflect on all the great things to be thankful for. We only close the kennel a few days a year and today one was one of those days. It was so nice to be able to sit with my family and actually talk to them without having to answer the phone or run out the door to go help someone for a change. We have been so extremely busy the past year that I think today was the first time all this year that I sat and spent time with my girls for several hours without having to leave to take care of some sort of kennel business. What a blessing it was to connect with them again.

Our beautiful litter of Glory puppies are growing up  so fast and will be ready to leave to go to their new homes the week before Christmas. It is looking like they possibly have some corgi in them! So I guess they are Border Corgi's! Some have the cutest little short legs! I will have  new updated pictures of them on the site in day or so. Here is a cute one!

GLORY PUPS

Please keep in mind that when the pups leave mom will be in search of a great forever home too. She is extremely smart, loving and a one of the sweetest girls I have ever seen. Please help us find her a great home. So often the moms take a very long time to  a good homes. Most people want a cute little puppy but never take the time to consider the benefits of a young adult dog

We are working hard on many different ways to raise money to help support the rescue and to get plumbing inside the kennel. I found another way tonight with print on it which is an online source for buying various printing supplies. I have bought products from them and really appreciate the excellent customer service and the premier quality of the products that they sell. If you are in the market for printing supplies please use the link below to visit the web site. 15% of all sales come back to us when you shop while using the link below to connect to the printonit.com web site. The only way we get paid is if you shop with them and you must use the below link so the sales can be credited back to our rescue program.

Here is a little about the awesome products they carry!  They have best iron on transfers I have ever found for both light and dark fabrics and while making the kennel t-shirts I have tried numerous brands and always go back to print on it for the ones they sell because no one else offers anything close the their quality. They are very easy to apply even with a house hold iron! They do not fade or  wear off like the transfers sold in the local stores. They also have a full line of other specialty papers for inkjet printing including 75+ year fade resistant photo papers. Print on it also carries the hot new vinyl & vinyl supplies to use with the cricut, pazzles, and wishbone machines which can help you make professional signs or beautiful scrap booking items with ease. Want to surprise someone for Christmas with a very personal and thoughtful gift? Print on it has great computer crafting kits you can use to make photo puzzles, mouse pads, t-shirt, calenders, coasters and more!

IF YOU CLICK THE LINK BELOW ANY THING YOU BUY WILL HELP SUPPORT HEAVENSOWN RESCUE!

WELCOME TO PRINT ON IT

I have been sick for about 6 days with the swine flu...keep me in your thoughts and prayers please. With my other health problems this is really getting to me. I have updated the site a little tonight. I have updated the wish list page so everyone will know where we are on food and core items. The wanted loving homes page got a few adjustments. There have been only a couple of adoptions this past week and very little cash donations so things are really tight right now. This is our boarding season with the Thanksgiving Holiday and we have a good number of boarders coming which will help make the kennel payment. We used all my disability check to pay for gravel for the kennel (almost 400.00) and the rest was used to purchase  the wire and electrical items we needed to do the back rooms where the sheet rock is about to be placed on the walls. The electrical had to be in place before the sheet rock could be hung. This will be the bathroom and grooming room areas of the kennel. We did not even buy groceries this time. Not to worry my freezer if full but we do need to get some adoptions this week to make room for the boarders coming in for Thanksgiving. Send the site to anyone you feel may be in search of a new companion.

*****Last of all check out the following link http://isearch.igive.com/.

You can sign up (only takes a minute or so) and choose the cause you want to support (Heavensown Rescue I hope is what you choose). Then do your web searches on isearchigive and we get money each time you search the web!!!

It could not be easier...then if you shop we get even more money into rescue. In web searches alone the past few days we have raised almost a 1.00. Sounds like no big deal right??? But that is a couple of bowls of dog food we did not have and all I did was search the web which is what I was already doing anyway and not getting anything for ...see my point? And if a lot of us use the site it will add up really fast. I hope you will give it a chance.

Head over and read about it...I promise it is the easiest site I have found to use for this type of donation.

Thanks so much~!~
Donna

11-20-09  UPDATES

We are working very hard to raise money for various projects (the big one is indoor plumbing!), vet care, and other things most people just take for granted. We are attempting to make donating as easy as possible and make it possible for anyone to help (even those of us with limited income can help it is free). Then it is not such a burden of just a few. We are signing up for several partnership programs where Heavensown Rescue can earn money just by your searching the web or when you purchase items your going to buy anyway online. Heavensown Rescue will  get a small percentage of the profits from many of the stores online that you may already be ordering from once we have this all in place and it will be very easy to set up!

Most of us search the web daily and by doing it the way we will show you the rescue pets will profit!

And best of all it WILL NOT COST YOU A PENNY. I will be sending out a email to all members of the site about how this is done and posting it here in a few days for those who are willing to help out with this great new way to raise funds for rescue. I am really excited about this because it will open the door for people who may not be able to help out by making monetarily donations due to the economy right now and we want everyone to be a part of helping to save these wonderful pets lives!

~~~~~~
Need information about fundraisers for our rescue work? If so please contact our friend Dawn at jballway@carolina.rr.com or Lauren - mailto:lgibilaro@carolina.rr.com.          We post fund raising events as they happen on our special fund raising page and hope you can join us at one of them soon! Or if you have an idea for a fund raising even contact Dawn jballway@carolina.rr.com  or Lauren -mailto:lgibilaro@carolina.rr.comboth of these ladies are always working hard to find ways to help support the pets in rescue at Heavensown.
~~~~~~

I changed the name of the update page. It is now called "this and that". This new page is just a over flow for things that do not seem to fit on the other pages. I have been putting all the updates on this home page or a while now and everyone seems to feel that this the best place for updates. This way if your in a hurry and only want to read what is the most current happenings at Heavensown or you need to know what supplies we are running out of it is easy and fast to locate. If you have any questions about this or anything else on the web site please just drop me an email and let me know.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU to Miller Dance Academy and the Morton family for the very generous donation of 13 bags of dog food!!! I almost cried when they called a few days back asking me what kind of food we needed most! These precious ladies and children are such wonderful animal lovers and have been a great help to us since we began the site back in Feb of this year. We do so appreciate the kindness that they have shown our rescue pets by their loving support. We were completely OUT of 2 of the 4 types of food we feed the dogs and puppies until they showed up and now we are set for a couple of weeks!
It is great to know we have enough food that they will be well fed for the next couple of weeks!

We try to keep the dogs on the same dry dog food as much as possible. Keeping them all on a good quality food without a bunch of fillers helps to keep them healthy plus switching dog food every few days causing HORRIBLE UPSET TUMMIES and that means more VET VISITS and MORE money that has to be spent on each dog. When we spent a little more upfront by buying decent dog food it saves us a ton on vet care at the end.

PLEASE if you are looking for a place for your child to take dance classes give these great folks a call and tell them you found out about them on our web site! Dance class is an excellent way to build a child's self esteem and great exercise too!

Below is all the contact and web information for Miller Dance Academy. Go check them out! It is much more than a dance studio they are teaching children to become caring members of our community with service projects!

Another VERY BIG THANK YOU goes out to the  sweet staff and students plus volunteers at NEW TOWN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
The 4th grade wanted to do a community service project and help animals boy were they successful! I think several other classes joined the cause and helped too. We were blessed to get a ton of treats, some blankets a lot of towels, cotton balls, some bowls, toys, dog food, cat food and treats and various other items. You guys are so great!
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO VISIT US AT HEAVENSOWN and meet the animals your donation drive supported anytime!!!

11- 16 -09 MORE UPDATES

PLEASE CHECK OUT THE WEB SITE..MANY NEW PETS ARE HERE IN RESCUE...SPACE AND FOOD IS IN LIMITED SUPPLY SO SEND THE WEB ADDRESS TO ANYONE WHO MAY BE IN SEARCH OF A NEW COMPANION.

WE HAVE SEVERAL NEW PETS AND PUPS...EVEN SOME TINY LITTLE LAP DOGS!

.

****We have several beautiful new pets in rescue WHICH ARE NOW POSTED TO THE WANTED LOVING HOMES PAGE. We are running very low on  food and other core items so the wish list page just got a major update. We have a lot of puppies in rescue right now along with 2 nursing moms who have to eat puppy food so puppy food is a GREAT NEED right now. We are using a average of 20+ pounds of puppy food every  day!....Check out our wish list page and if possible donate even one bag to help feed the babies in rescue.

****In addition to our beautiful Gas shelter saved Mommy named Glory we were able to rescue another mom and her babies. Unfortunately we could not arrange transport before she delivered her 7 precious babies on the cold concrete floor of a shelter down in eastern NC without the warmth of any blankets or bedding.  She had her pups during the night this past Sunday alone in the cold shelter. We named this sweet Australian Shepherd girl Liberty as she is now liberated from having to sleep on a cold floor in the shelter ever again thank God!  Liberty now has a warm safe room with lots of blankets for herself and her 3 day old pups! I will post more pictures of them shortly and plan to give them a page of their own so everyone can watch them grow up online like the Glory pups are doing! See Liberty and pups below! All safe and warm now!

*****Transport problems. For those of you who do not know this we are driving a 13 year old van to do transport animals from the shelters and many are hours away. The van is actually the newest vehicle we own. We spend every extra dime we get to help save pets lives. We have not spent any amount of money on our home or vehicles other than what is an emergency in many years so we could keep this all going. The problem now is that we are having major issues with the dog transport van. This is the second time in a month or so that the van has had mechanical issues while we were trying to transport dogs to safety from the shelters.  Our dog van has had major issues recently and even after spending almost 500.00 in repairs it is still over heating. James went to pick up the new rescue mommy Liberty in the van and a trip that should have taken him 4 hours ended up taking over 6 because he had to keep stopping when the van would over heat. (thank you James for your patience and for spending all that time getting this wonderful little girl safe) Liberty could have got here sooner and delivered her pups here instead of the cold shelter floor if we did not have to wait till someone was able to meet us part way with her but we could not risk a trip that far in the van since it is having issues right now.... Pray that we find the problem and are able to get it fixed soon or we may have to stop doing some of the travels to save these pets from shelters due to lack of transportation.

*****I have added new pictures of the Glory pups to her page. They are walking around now, eyes are open and they are starting to eat mushed up puppy food! If I get enough people interested when the pups get a little older I will add a link to each one so you can email me with names you choose for them. I think it would be fun and great to have your input when it comes to giving these adorable babies a new name! They are truly such precious little ones and to think they would not be alive now without the help of so many of you who support our rescue work! THANK YOU for caring and supporting our work to save pets from the shelters!!!

******Do you see a theme here with the 2 new moms names? I am not a political person by nature but getting sick of the values of our forefathers being under fire in the nation. So many fought hard for this country....now it seems that those values are under attack by a few misguided individuals. Our nation was built on the words in God we trust and I pray that we step back and all discover what some are trying to turn this country into ....liberty, honor, glory, honesty and good values plus so many things we all take for granted could be a thing of the past if some people get what they want....I suggest they move on to a country where those things are not important to people because I feel they are still important to a majority of us here in the USA... OK off the soap box and back to work on the site.

11-4-09 UPDATES

Lots of things are happening here at Heavensown! Thanks for all the emails and visits over the past few weeks! There will be MAJOR updates on many of the pages including this one so check the site out good if you have time. Also kids and teens....there are so many of you who help us out and we are  so thankful for you. I added an Arcade page to the web site so you could go have a little fun if you like!

I want to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone who showed up for the taping of the video for the extreme home makeover application. We will have the completed video in the mail to the network in a few days so keep your fingers crossed and we will let you know if and when we here anything. Thank you Dawn and Lauren for feeling that we deserve such an honor as to be nominated. It would thrill me to think that our rescue work could get national attention. Just think of all the people who have no idea what a gas shelter is and how they could be educated by the show!

* We are VERY low on dog food. We have one bag of Rescue Kirkland Adult dog food which we just bought and one bag of Kirkland Puppy food which we bought yesterday plus a 2 bags of misc dog food.  If you are thinking of donating anything in the near future dog food is in great demand right now. I am doing an entire web site update today including the wish list page and will sure that the most pressing needs are posted.

* Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers....I lost my dear best dogie pal in the world on 11-2-09. Precious a 13 year old Australian Shepherd has been my closest friend for a very long time. She was the greatest dog I have ever had and my heart is broken. I know it will get a little easier each day but right now I am having a difficult time. You can see a picture of my dear friend Precious on the history page soon. She will always be a big part of why I do this. I wish everyone could know what it is like to have such a loyal, loving deeply devoted companion!

The excitement continues with an easy way to give without going into your wallet~!~

* We are accepting donations of good quality used and NEW items to sell on ebay to raise money for our indoor plumbing.              We are in desperate need to get indoor water at the kennel before it gets very cold again. I can not tell you how difficult it is to stand outside in 30 degree and below weather and wash + fill water buckets for the dogs. My hands are already started to bleed and crack from being in the cold weather/water so much. PLEASE help us make this process better for everyone involved!

Lauren and Lisa will head up this exciting project. Please contact them by clicking on their email address below so they can work with you to get the items collected and up for sale on eBay. Think about that great gift someone gave you last year that is still laying in the closest not being used! This would be a great way to put it to use now and have it make a real difference!

Please think about the items and what you would be willing to buy on ebay. No junk please....we have a bunch of that already...LOL...thank you so much for helping us with this very urgent project!

Above is just one of the views from the deck where we were staying at in the NC Mountains

9-27-09    Lots of news and updates!!!

James and I were blessed to be able to take a short trip to the NC Mountains this week. What a beautiful peaceful time! It was the first time I have been away in over 8 years since we began doing so much rescue work. I would like to thank our daughters Christin and Heather for pitching in and making the time away possible for us. Lisa T and Lisa S were so kind to get some much needed pro plan dog food for the dogs when the girls ran out while we were gone. Dawn thanks for running the bags Lisa S bought over to the kennel for us. Thanks to Paul for pitching in and helping as the girls needed your help.

Next I would like to thank Susan Roberts (who is a very special friend and sister in Christ) and her Mom Mary Gaye for allowing us to stay in the most beautiful vacation house that is at the very top of Mount Boyd. The stunning views at their family cabin (which was built by Susan’s very talented husband John Mark) are like a glimpse of Heaven. I have never felt so welcome or spoiled anywhere as I did this past week. They brought food, had firewood already split and even loaned us the new laptop that Mary Gaye just bought to use while we were staying at their vacation home! There are no words to express how grateful we are to Susan and Mary Gaye. You are both such wonderful special friends! I plan to put a folder on the site and add some pictures from our trip. We saw and got really close to dozens of Elk which are newly introduced to the North Carolina Mountains! We saw a young bear that crossed the road in front of us while we were traveling in the high country too! I have great pictures of a lot of scenic views and wildlife that I will share in the folder on the site in soon as I have some free time....Some of the pictures would make great desktop backgrounds if you want to download and use them feel free to do so!

I can not forget a couple of other special ladies who worked at the kennel while we were away. Dawn and  Lauren were so kind to work very hard cleaning & organizing our office so we can get it back in working order. They also had some help from a new volunteer who I hate to admit but I do not recall her name....I have a really hard time with names so please forgive me. I know your face and do appreciate all the hard work you did too! Lauren and Dawn are also attempting to get things ready for winter for the rescue program here. We do not have the kennel actually finished yet. We have been working on projects as money and skilled labor is available. One thing that they are working on now is to get the ceilings insulated and finished out. I think they have located some insulation and someone willing to put it up. A great guy and wonderful carpenter named Rob will be putting in the ceilings once the insulation is put up. We will have the contact information for Rob if you need a skilled carpenter. I do hope you will consider supporting Rob since he has been so kind to help with this and other projects.

Rob does custom woodworking, cabinets, decks, shelving and more!

THE best way to get in touch with Rob for your carpenter needs

IS

BY CALLING  704-819-1269

or email Rob at roboneill@carolina.rr.com

tell Rob you heard about him on The Heavensown Rescue web site please~!~

PLEASE help us keep our hours...we have worked till 11 at night so many times just to catch up with feeding the dogs after a day filled with visitors that starts each morning at 7 am...we love it when you come but we have to take care of the dogs too and try to have a life outside the kennel.

WE ARE THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE that we have a NEW GRAND DAUGHTER ON THE WAY!!! Autumn Grace is due November 8th and my daughter is worried that I will not have a moment to spend with her since it seems I am always at the kennel. She asked that I please post our hours and at least try to keep them so when the new little one arrives I will have some time for her too!

I WOULD'VE DIED THAT DAY IF NOT FOR YOU

I would've given up on life, if not for your kind eyes.
I would have used my teeth in fear, if not for your gentle hand.
I would have left this life, believing that all humans don't care.
Believing there is no such thing as fur that isn't matted...
Skin that isn't flea bitten, Good Food and enough of it.......
Beds to sleep on......
Someone to love me.......... .
To show me I deserve love....... just because I exist. Your kind eyes........ ... your loving smile..... your gentle hands..... Your big heart saved me!!!!!
You saved me from the terror of dying on the street.
You have soothed away the memories of my old life.
You have taught me what it means to be loved. I have seen you do the same for other dogs & cats just like me.
I have heard you ask yourself in times ! of despair... why you do it????
When there is no more money..... No more room.... No more homes....
I see you open your heart a little bigger...... stretch the money a little tighter.....
Make just a little more room..... to save one more like me. I tell you this with all the gratitude and love that shines in my eyes.
It is the best way I know how.......
Reminding you why you go on trying....
I AM THE REASON !
The dogs & cats before me are the reason.
As are the ones who come after.
Our lives would've been wasted...... Our love never given.....
WE WOULD'VE DIED THAT DAY IF NOT FOR YOU !   Author Unknown

There are 45 cats and dogs for every person born.
Only 1 out of 10 dogs born ever get a home.

Please SPAY and NEUTER!

oh this is a good read...please take the time.....see below.....

"rescued a human today.

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively
into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I
wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she
stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the
back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think
poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past.
I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in
someone's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at
me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for
companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her
that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly
jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to
always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that
radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today. "

11-04-09  CRITICAL.... we have been lucky that Dr. Booker has allowed us to run a tab on our emergency cases but now it is just getting WAY TO HIGH!!! Currently the bill is around $2,500 and if we can not get it paid down below a 1,000 we will have to stop doing rescue till that happens. There is just too high a risk that we will have more urgent care cases and can not expect our vet to keep holding off on getting paid. So once again INSTEAD of buying items on our wish list PLEASE consider

calling Dr.Booker at 704-844-8387 and making a donation toward the bill for Donna and James Fowler's rescue dogs at Heavensown . YOUR HELP AS ALWAYS is greatly appreciated.

Below is how this web site started out back in Feb 09-2009....

We have given up everything we can to keep the rescue running. There have been no vacations for our family in some 8  years now. No not one over night trip to the beach even. This past Christmas is the first time since James and I meet that we did not even go out and buy Christmas gifts for each other. It is hard to imagine despite our hard work and self sacrifice that our dreams and vision may be coming to an end soon.

So we have prayed about this and decided to post to this web site the needs we have and if the Lord wants us to keep this going he will provide a way. The horrible conditions we have saved animals from the past several years are still out there today. The shelters are still GASSING puppies, pregnant dogs, adult dogs and cats every day! There is still puppies thrown from car windows and abandoned on the side of roads everyday. The question is who is going to help us save as many of them as we can still???

I hope you understand that the problem with the pet overpopulation is not the responsibility of just a few people it is up to ALL of us to save them and install affordable spay/neuter programs. PLUS we need to stop the cruel way these poor animals are gassed at the shelter using our tax dollars.

WILL YOU STAND WITH US? TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE AS WE CAN NOT KEEP THIS GOING MUCH LONGER. WE WILL ADD A LIST OF ITEMS WE MUST PURCHASE SOON AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE AND A LIST OF ITEMS YOU CAN DONATE IF CASH IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR YOU. EVERYONE CAN HELP IN SOME SMALL WAY.

WE WILL UPDATE THE WISH LIST PAGE  AND CHANGE THINGS AROUND AS WE COLLECT ITEMS.

UNTIL RECENTLY WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD ENOUGH THAT WE WERE ABLE TO HELP OTHER SMALL SELF SUPPORTED RESCUE PEOPLE WHEN THEY WERE IN NEED. THESE ARE PEOPLE LIKE US WHO DO THIS ON A WING AND A PRAYER SO TO SPEAK. THEY ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY COPORATE AMERICA NOR HAVE A CELEBRITY WORKING ON THEIR BEHALF TO GET DONATIONS.

IF WE SHOULD EVER HAVE AN ABUNDANCE OF ANYTHING IN OUR SUPPLIES THAT ANOTHER RESCUE PERSON NEEDED WE WOULD HELP THEM AGAIN. WE HAVE TO ALL WORK TOGETHER IN ORDER TO SAVE AS MANY NEEDY PETS AS POSSIBLE SO NOTHING YOU DONATE WILL EVER BE WASTED. ALL DONATIONS WILL GO TO HELP SAVE THE LIFE OF A PET IN DESPERATE NEED.

We now own the web address      http://www.heavensownrescue.com/           that should be much easier to remember and so much easier to tell people how to reach the site!

This is a picture I took of the kennel a few weeks back during the snow it was at dusk and the dogs were all inside sleeping! It was a real peaceful moment and the snow was beautiful!

Update- 2-24-2009

The blog page just does not seem to have the editing options I need when I do updates so I have had to just create a update page to keep everyone in the loop about what is happening. I tried to use the blog page but keep getting page errors??? From today on all the latest news and updates will be posted on the page called UPDATES. I typed for a couple of hours last night and this morning trying to get everything "caught up" for that page. The site is really growing fast! We have some fund raising events coming up soon please check out that new page and join us if you can. For information or questions about fund raising please email Dawn at jballway@carolina.rr.com .

Check out "looking for loving homes" page. We have had a few adoptions....even a couple of adult dogs!!!!!!!!! Thanks to each of you for sending out the web site to your friends and family! Both adult adoptions came from people who got a email message telling them about our rescue work! You guys are the best! And I know the gas shelter dogs who have a safe warm home this morning would say the same thing if they could.

Have a great day!

Donna

IN CASE YOU ARE NOT A PERSON WHO LIKES TO GIVE ONLINE IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAIL A CHECK OR MONEY ORDER TO HEAVENSOWN RESCUE BY SENDING IT HERE:

6415 MARVIN FOWLER RD. WAXHAW NC 28173

This past year alone we have had several dogs which were THROWN out car windows onto the side of the road (while the cars were moving), dog fight bait dogs, dogs hit by cars left to die, dogs attached by other dogs with horrible teeth wounds and broken bones, dogs tied to trees and abandoned with NO shelter, NO food & NO water but left with 7 puppies to try to care for. We have had dogs with embedded collars,  dogs that were beat...you name it we have seen just about everything you can think of...everything that no one wants to THINK ABOUT....all sorts of terribly sad horrendous cruel treatment that goes on and so often no one is stepping up to stop or help the victims..... All these things that no one wants to think about!!! It is not pretty and it does not give me a real warm fuzzy feeling to have to try to go to sleep each night knowing what I know............But I can not and will not pretend it does not happen...it is real....

It kills me inside every time I visit a gas shelter and have to decide who will get into our van and go to safety and who will be left behind to be killed/gassed. By the time we step in and rescue from gas shelters we are the last chance those dogs/puppies have of getting out. They have been there the max amount of time the shelter will hold them for waiting for someone to come and adopt them. We show up sometimes hours before they are killed and have to evaluate them to see who would be the most adoptable once we take them into rescue. So often which ones will be getting saved in the nick of time is left in our hands.

We would save them all if we could but would run out of space very fast. The older dogs are so hard to find homes for when we do rescue them. Many have heartworms and we have to pay to have them treated before they are adopted, Then when people come to see dogs most want a cute little puppy to take home not a older dog. What most people do not know is that an older dog many times would make a much better pet! We normally have them house trained before they leave and well socialized. The adult dogs make WONDERFUL PETS if people would just consider them more often. But since they don't tend to take the older dogs we must leave most of them behind.......left to die.

I hate that feeling it is almost as if I am playing God trying to decide which ones will live and which ones will die.............

Not thinking about it does nothing to save the dogs or to stop it from happening.

We are committed to helping...... do you care enough to be a part of the solution and not hide from the problem?

As a community we need to pull together and work on low cost spay/neuter programs. We need to find a way to get these poor dogs off chains that get tangled up and wrapped around stuff making them unable to move....or worse I here of SO MANY that hang themselves by accident.

We need to stop people from tossing out their dogs like trash for someone else to pick up and take care of! We are doing all we can but we need help because we can not do this by ourselves anymore....there are way too many dogs needing help and  Way too many people who are looking the other way..............

Dogs have feeling too and they deserve to be treated decently with respect and kindness.
